Biography/Personal Interests

Dr. Pietrafitta began his career at St. Louis University where he received his medical degree in 1974. He completed a residency in Internal Medicine in 1979 and his surgical residency at the Boston University Group Hospitals in 1981. He finished a fellowship in Surgical Oncology at the same institution in 1983. He was appointed  Instructor in Surgery by Boston University School of Medicine from 1983 - 1990 and Assistant Professor of Surgery from 1990 - 1994. Dr. Pietrafitta relocated to Minneapolis in 1990 and has been in private practice since that time. He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and is certified by the American Boards of Surgery, Internal Medicine and Laser Surgery.

Dr. Pietrafitta currently practices General Surgery, specializing in gastrointestinal surgery, endoscopy, laparoscopic surgery, and Surgical Oncology. He has authored over 75 abstracts, scientific papers and book chapters. He co-authored a book on laparoscopic abdominal surgery and was instrumental in the education and training of physicians in laparoscopic surgery as well as the use of lasers in general, endoscopic and laparoscopic surgery.

He enjoys traveling, collecting works of art, riding motorcycles, exploring his Italian heritage by learning the language, cooking Italian cuisine, wine making and spending time with his children and grandchildren.
